"This book is a marvel! The bees and plants are magnificently drawn and very recognisable. The engaging the storyline and the humour with which it is written make it a wonderful read, while en passant conveying a wealth of information about bees, their needs and behaviours." - Dr K. Hogendoorn

About the author
Shane was born in Adelaide, South Australia. He and his family moved to the countryside when he was 7 years of age where his parents had bought acreage and built a house.
He had a love of art from a young age, often finding subjects to sketch and draw (including the animals on the family's hobby farm).
Later, he helped his Dad to re-vegetate large sections of the property with Australian native plants, and enjoyed seeing new native bird species visit year after year. This started his interest in birds and plants, and eventually fuelled his passion to want to help restore the natural environment; so much so that he went on to study environmental science at university after school.
Over time, his interests have branched out into other areas, such as native bees and butterflies, and he actively enjoys volunteering on conservation projects in his spare time.
After starting his own family, he saw that he could make a difference by educating children at a young age through picture books, so set out to write and illustrate his first book, The Hungry Honeyeater.
Belle the Blue-banded Bee is his second picture book
publication.
